Based on the water level on 26 August, OPIDIN is forecasting a moderate flood (maximum level 611 cm), comparable to that of three years ago (2023: 613 cm). This is significantly lower than that of 2025 (662 cm) and 2025 (716 cm).

The water level at Mopti is lower than in the previous two years, and OPIDIN is forecasting a moderate flood, comparable to last year’s. However, the forecasts remain uncertain and may vary depending on rainfall over the coming weeks.

This is the last bulletin of OPIDIN in the flooding season 2025-2026. The water level in Mopti reached a peak of 642 on 6 October. The peak of the flood this year is much lower than last year, and comparable to the floods in the years 2020-2021.

The water level in Mopti rose by 18 cm, from 615 cm on 10 September to 633 cm on 19 September. The water level rise has levelled off considerably and it is expected that the water level will only rise a little in the coming weeks. The peak of the flood is expected to be reached in Mopti around half of October. The flood will be comparable with the floods in the years 2020-2021.

The water level in Mopti has risen by 45 cm over the past week, and the rise in water levels has levelled off. The peak level is nearly reached. OPIDIN predicts that the water level in Mopti will only slightly increase the coming weeks and reach a moderate peak level as high as four years ago (2020, 2021), years with a moderate flood.

It is therefore likely that the flood in 2025 will be much lower than last year. However, the flood prediction is still unsure and may vary depending on the amount of rainfall the coming weeks.

This is the last OPIDIN bulletin of the flooding season 2024. The flood at Mopti has reached its highest level (716 cm) on 8 November. Such a high flood level has not been measured since more than 50 years. In the southern part of the delta the water level has started to decline, but further downstream the water still goes up.

The flood level in Mopti nearly reached its peak, currently reaching a level which is 22 - 27 cm higher than the peak floods in three recent years with very high flood levels (2018, 2020 and 2022). OPIDIN predicts that the flood of 2024 will be very high, much higher than the peak floods of the last 50 years.

OPIDIN predicts that the flood of 2024 will be extremely high, comparable to the highest floods measured over the last 75 years. On October 2, the water level had already reached 683 cm, 20 to 40 cm higher on this date than in the last three years of very high floods. A further increase will be limited.

OPIDIN predicts that the flood of 2024 will be extremely high, comparable with the highest floods measured in the last 75 years. The water level on 24 September already reached a level of 675 cm, as high as the maximum level in 2022, the last year with a high flood.

The water level in Mopti has now just about reached its peak with a level of 612 cm on 16 October. Last week, the level rose a few more cm but hardly at all in the last few days. If the water were to increase again, it will most likely be only a few cm. Hence, the inundation in the Inner Niger Delta is modest this year, and significantly lower than the five years before.

The flood in the Inner Delta has reached its highest point, amounting to a high of 675 cm in Mopti. This is considerably higher than last year, and just slightly higher than the recent high floods in 2018 (670 cm) and 2020 (670 cm). This brings the flood to its highest level since 1969.

There is a very high flood in the Inner Niger Delta this year, even slightly higher than the recent high floods in 2018 and 2020, and considerably higher than last year. The flood is now starting to stabilise in Mopti but due to rainfall upstream, the peak may not have been reached yet. However, the flood is not expected to rise much higher.

OPIDIN forecasts a high flood this year in the Inner Niger Delta, comparable to recent high floods in 2018 and 2020, and clearly higher than last year. The flood will probably reach a level well above 650, may be even higher. This will depend however on the discharge in the coming weeks and the rainfall upstream.

Unlike in previous years, no weekly bulletins are published this year. The information on water levels is updated weekly, and the predicted flood can be followed via the flood forecast page.

It is more likely that the water level will now gradually fall and that this year the maximum water level in Mopti (633 cm) has been reached . The maximal flooding is this year about as high as in 2019.
