On 26 August, the water level at Mopti was 430, just 2 cm higher than a week earlier, on 18 August (428 cm). The water level has therefore hardly risen at all over the past week. Compared with the previous two years, the water level at Mopti is significantly lower: 133 cm lower than last year, and as much as 185 cm lower than two years ago (2024), a year marked by severe flooding. The water level is 70 cm lower than it was three years ago (2023).

OPIDIN forecasts a maximum level of 611 cm, significantly lower than in 2025 (662 cm) and 2025 (716 cm), but comparable to that of three years ago (2023: 613 cm). OPIDIN therefore forecasts a moderate flood.

So far, rainfall in the Upper Niger region has, on average, been below normal. Furthermore, the forecasts for the coming weeks do not indicate that rainfall will be above average. Looking ahead, OPIDIN’s forecasts may still vary depending on the cumulative rainfall in the upper Niger basin.
