Bulletin 1 | 12 Août 2026

The new 2026–2027 flood season has begun, and OPIDIN is issuing regular updates until the water level at Mopti reaches its peak. Information on water levels is updated regularly, and the forecast flood level can be monitored on the flood forecast page.

The water level at Mopti was 410 cm on 12 August. This is 53 cm lower than the level recorded on the same date last year, and as much as 113 cm lower than in 2024, when the flood reached an extremely high level. Based on these water levels, OPIDIN is forecasting a moderate flood, comparable to that of last year and three years ago (2023). Rainfall recorded over the last four months in the upper Niger basin has been average. Rainfall forecasts for the coming weeks indicate that southern Mali will experience slightly above-normal rainfall. It is only the beginning of August; we are therefore only halfway through the rainy season and the situation may still change considerably, depending on rainfall over the coming weeks.
