Bulletin 3 | 27 August 2025

The water level in Mopti rose by 76 cm within the past two weeks, from 487 cm on 13 August to 563 cm on 27 August. That is, on average, by 6 cm a day. The water level in Mopti on 27 August in this year is 52 lower than the last year, with a very high flood, but 60 higher than two years  before. OPIDIN predicts that the water level in Mopti will still increase about half a meter the coming weeks and reach a moderate peak level comparable or higher than two year before.

OPIDIN makes every day a new prediction of the maximum water level. This prediction has not changed significantly the last 14 days. Rainfall in the Upper Niger Basin has been rather low (Mali) or average (Guinea) in the past months. Depending on the rainfall during the coming weeks in the Upper Niger, the flood height can still change a little, but it is rather certain that the flood level this year will be much lower than last year and about the same or higher than in 2023.
