The water level in Mopti rose by 45 cm within a week, from 522 cm on 24 August to 565 cm on 31 August. That is, on average, by 6 cm a day. The water level is this year in Mopti on 31 August already higher than the peak level of the flood in 2017, but OPIDIN predicts that the water level in Mopti will still increase about one meter the coming weeks and reach a peak level as high as the last three years and in 2016.
OPIDIN makes every day a new prediction of the maximum water level. This prediction has not changed the last 18 days. Depending on the rainfall during the coming weeks in the Upper Niger, the flood height can still change a little bit, but it is already rather certain that the flood level this year will be about as high as the last three years.
