On 21 September, the water level at Mopti was 500 cm. Since the previous OPIDIN-bulletin on 26 August this year, the water level has risen by 70 cm, which is less than 3 cm per day. Compared with the previous recent years, the water level at Mopti is significantly lower at the same time of the year: 135 cm lower than last year, and as much as 170 cm lower than two years ago (2024), a year marked by severe flooding.

OPIDIN is forecasting a maximum water level of 618 cm, significantly lower than in 2025 (662 cm) and 2025 (716 cm), but comparable to that of three years ago (2023: 613 cm). OPIDIN therefore forecasts a moderate flood.  It is expected that the forecast will not change significantly over the coming weeks, as we are now in the final phase of the rainy season and most of the rainfall has already fallen.
