The water level at Mopti was 428 cm on 18 August, compared with 410 cm in the week of 12 August, representing an average rise of 3 cm per day. Compared with the previous two years, the level is 92 to 152 cm lower than on the same date (in 2025 and 2024 respectively), but comparable to that of three years ago (2023).
OPIDIN forecasts a maximum level of 610 cm, significantly lower than in 2025 (662 cm) and 2025 (716 cm), but comparable to that of three years ago (2023: 613 cm). OPIDIN therefore forecasts a moderate flood.
Looking ahead, the observed rise in water levels will continue, and OPIDIN’s forecasts may vary depending on cumulative rainfall in the upper Niger basin.
