Based on the information available on 24 September, OPIDIN predicts that the flood of 2019 will be
relatively high compared to the floods of the last 25 years. The prediction of the flood level is now
rather certain.
The water level in Mopti has increased another 19 cm last week (17 – 24 September), reaching a level
(604 cm) being higher than most years since 1994, although still 145 cm lower than on 24 September
in 2018 and in 2016 (when the floods were very high). OPIDIN predicts for 2019 that the water level
in Mopti still will increase about another 30 cm the coming weeks. The maximal flood level will be
about as high as in 2007-2010, a bit higher than 2012,2013 or 2015, but not as high as in 2016 and
2018.
