The water level in Mopti increased another 14 cm in the past two weeks (3-15 October), and nearl;y reached its peak. The rise water level slowed down significantly. The water level in Mopti is now reaching a level of 697 cm, which is 22 - 27 cm higher than the peak floods in three recent years with very high flood levels (2018, 2020 and 2022). Since 1967 the water level has not been so high as in this year. OPIDIN predicts that the water level in Mopti will increase only another a few cm’s and nearly reached its maximum.
The peak in Mopti will be reached at the beginning of November, and the flood will be at its maximum in Akka probably around half December. Based on the current prediction, the south-western part of the Inner Niger Delta may become available for grazing cattle around half December.
